The Peruvian Circle of Phenomenology and Hermeneutics (CIphER) has been functioning since its foundation (August 20, 2004) at the Department of Humanities of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). Its members, ordinary and collaborators, are Peruvian philosophers interested in the development of the fundamental lines of the contemporary philosophical traditions known as phenomenology and hermeneutics. Its aim is to provide a space for the exchange of information and the dissemination of national and international research in these traditions, and to encourage their creative development in our country.
The Headquarters of its Secretariat functions jointly with that of the Latin American Circle of Phenomenology (CLAFEN) in coordination with the Centre of Philosophical Studies of PUCP’s Department of Humanities.
CIphER was the convener of the Second Meeting of the Organization of Phenomenological Organizations (OPO), in PUCP’s campus in Lima on August 15-20, 2005, with the participation of phenomenologists from North and South America, Europe, and Asia.
Since 2005, CIphER has uninterruptedly organised annual Journeys of Phenomenology and Hermeneutics, with renowned international keynote speakers. This has enabled the gradual growth of an active philosophical community in our traditions, in fruitful dialogue with international researchers, with whom some of our students have also worked abroad thereafter.
In 2015, a group of CIphER faculty and student members, active in research tasks and publications, founded CIphER Research Group, formally registered at the General Research Office of PUCP’s Vice-Rectorate for Research.
