Call for Abstracts
Husserl Archives, KU Leuven, Belgium
June 28–30, 2022
Submission deadline: May 13, 2022
Thanks to the patient editorial work of Ullrich Melle and Thomas Vongehr, the last months have seen the long-awaited publication of the volumes of the Studien zur Struktur des Bewusstseins. This impressive work renders accessible hundreds of pages of Edmund Husserl’s previously unpublished manuscripts devoted to concrete and meticulous analyses of cognitive, emotional, and volitional acts of consciousness. The Studien thereby enrich and challenge our previous understanding of Husserl’s phenomenology in general and of his phenomenology of emotion and action in particular.
The Husserl Archives at the Institute of Philosophy at KU Leuven is pleased to announce that it will host a workshop devoted to the exploration of themes from the Studien. The event will take place from June 28 to June 30, 2022, and it is planned to be held in person. It will feature talks by established scholars and early-career researchers from institutions around the world; as well as two reading seminars.
The invited speakers are Jagna Brudzińska (Polish Academy of Sciences – University of Cologne), Natalie Depraz (University of Rouen), Sara Heinämaa (University of Jyväskylä), James Jardine (University of Jyväskylä), Ullrich Melle (KU Leuven), Sonja Rinofner-Kreidl (University of Graz), Andrea Staiti (University of Parma), Michela Summa (University of Würzburg), Thomas Vongehr (KU Leuven), and Antonio Zirión Quijano (National Autonomous University of Mexico).
The early-career speakers will be selected on the basis of a call for abstracts. The organisers thus welcome submissions from current graduate students and recent graduates on topics related to Husserl’s Studien. Abstracts should be of a maximum length of 500 words. Submissions from academics from underrepresented groups in philosophy are especially encouraged.
The submission deadline is May 13, 2022.
Abstracts should be ready for double-blind review. The organisers kindly ask to remove any identifying details from them. Please include the author’s name, paper title, and affiliation in a separate cover letter.
All submissions and inquiries should be sent to [email protected].
Expect notifications about the outcome by May 20, 2022.
Note that on the evening of June 30, the Husserl Archives will also host the Husserl Memorial Lecture, which will be given by Anthony Steinbock (Stony Brook University). The organizers encourage those who wish to and can to attend both events.
