The title of her talk is: “Preventing Dementia? On the Epistemic Situatedness of the ‘New Dementia’?”

Annette Leibing is Professor of Medical Anthropology at the University of Montreal, Canada and member of the research group on social gerontology CREGéS. Her research focuses on diseases of aging, such as dementia, Parkinson’s, heart disease etc., on stem cells as a technology of hope, often including data from Brazil. She is co-leader of a three-country study (GER, CA and CH) on the prevention of dementia, and the co-leader of an international study group on “Rejecting the future: Practices of Resistance or Failure” at the Institute for Advanced Study (HWK) in Germany. Her latest book is an edited volume Preventing dementia? Critical perspectives on a new paradigm of preparing for old age (Berghahn, 2021).
