The BSP invites the submission of expressions of interest to host our UK Annual Conference 2025 or International Symposium 2025.

The British Society for Phenomenology invites the submission of expressions of interest to host our UK Annual Conference 2025 or our International Symposium 2025. You can check out further information on both these events below:

BSP UK Annual Conference 2025
The BSP UK Annual Conference is a longstanding and respected feature of the UK academic scene, providing a friendly and supportive forum for inter-disciplinary discussion. Each year we convene an annual conference by way of collaboration with a different university within the UK, co-funding and co-organising the event with a representative of the host university.

At the event, we actively seek to explore the interface between the theory and history of phenomenology and its practice by professionals of many fields; and will welcome papers exploring academic phenomenological / post-phenomenological research and from those applying phenomenological methods in practical fields as diverse as medicine, healthcare, and law.

Recent keynote speakers have included Shaun Gallagher (University of Memphis), Sara Heinämaa (University of Jyväskylä), Dan Zahavi (University of Copenhagen), Mariana Ortega (Penn State), Alia Al-Saji (McGill University), and – this year in 2024 – Prof. Michela Summa (Institut Für Philosophie at Julius-Maximilians-Universität, Würzburg).

Over recent years the BSP has held the annual conference at the University of Brighton and the University of Kent. Having convened online conferences in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, we returned to face to face events in 2022 with the University of Exeter, 2023 with Manchester Metropolitan University, and this year with UWE Bristol.

For 2025, we are looking for initial expressions of interest from UK based academics in the field of phenomenology who would like to host the annual conference in late August / early September of that year.

BSP International Symposium 2025
The BSP International Symposium is intended to foster closer links between phenomenologists working in the UK and across the world, collaborating with a different host institution outside the UK each year to co-fund and co-organise the event.

The International Symposium will offer a platform through which to spotlight areas of excellence and innovation at the host institution or country, entering into dialogue with visiting delegates from the BSP and exploring points of common interest. Led by the BSP Chair of the International Symposium, Jessie Stanier, we held our first International Symposium in 2023 with phenomenology academics at Università degli Studi di Milano, Milan, Italy, entitled ‘Intercorporeality in Artifactual Milieux’.

For 2025, we would welcome applications from anyone working at a potential host University with an interest in phenomenology or Phenomenological society. We are looking for expressions of interest from potential hosts based anywhere outside the UK.

Partners hosting the International Symposium will be fully supported by the BSP events team, who have a wealth of experience convening events.
