The Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) project is a collaboration between the Institute of Philosophy & the British Philosophical Association.
The Institute of Philosophy, School of Advanced Study, University of London is advertising a role instigated by the British Philosophical Association (BPA) for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Philosophy in the UK (24 Months).
This fixed-term position has been created to employ a researcher to design and undertake a qualitative and quantitative research project assessing the extent of under representation within the discipline of Philosophy. The project will investigate the experiences of under-represented groups in the discipline amongst staff and undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students and to understand how curricula and the climate in the discipline contribute to this experience. While the successful candidate will help to develop the research design it is envisaged it will involve a mixed-methods approach using both interview-based and survey-based methodologies and analysis. The outcome will be a written report with a detailed summary of findings, including (in consultation with the British Philosophical Association) a set of practical recommendations for all UK Philosophy departments, research centres and teaching clusters, with a set of best practice guidelines with regard to equality, diversity and inclusion within the discipline. The successful candidate for this position will have demonstrated applied research experience using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and need not have experience in Philosophy.
