Created in 2022, SFraP is the Société Francophone de Phénoménologie, an independent professional organization based in France, gathering international scholars working in French or on French phenomenology and devoted to supporting French phenomenology and its connections with the European continental tradition.
The Société Francophone de Phénoménologie (SFraP) aims at promoting research in French phenomenology and supporting the development of a philosophical community working in this area. It brings together French-speaking researchers in phenomenology, French-speaking researchers working on authors and themes from the phenomenological movement, researchers working on authors and themes from the phenomenological movement in the French language; to list the works and resources available in the field of French-speaking phenomenology; to contribute to the dissemination and promotion of phenomenology in dialogue with all fields of knowledge and practice, in a pluralist and multidisciplinary perspective; to create spaces for meetings and discussions in the form of meetings, conferences, workshops, websites, cultural and artistic meetings and events, debates and events around publications; to disseminate the work of the various events it organizes, and of the researchers who are members of and collaborate on the association’s activities, using the various media available (books, journals, websites, videos, radio).
It currently has a website listing its members’ activities and publications, organizes international meetings (“la Biennale”) on themes proposed by its members, and currently has over a hundred members, including its honorary president Renaud Barbaras and honorary members such as Claude Romano.
SfraP organizes a conference every two years (“La Biennale”) that brings together researchers and scholars from France and abroad, fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas in the field of French phenomenology.
